Marionette Characters of the Goldfields

The marionettes displayed below were part of the exhibition Are We On The Same Page in which eight artists/book club members demonstrated their personal responses to literature and reading.

The marionettes were inspired by the Man Booker Prize winning novel of 2013, The Luminaries, by Eleanor Catton. This historical/crime novel is set in the goldfields on the West Coast of New Zealand in the 1860s. It has a particular and personal meaning for me because my Great Grandfather was a gold miner from this region during the same period of time.
